Cherry Juice For Gout

If you have gout, then it is essential that you maintain a proper diet and avoid certain foods. One of the foods that you don’t want to avoid is cherries. While fresh cherries are best you can also use cherry juice for gout. This therapy has actually been around for quite some time.

Cherries are actually one of the best things you can eat whether you have gout or not. They contain a fair amount of fiber, a little over three grams and because of this they can aid in digestion and weight loss. While cherries only contain low amounts of  vitamin K, vitamin B6, vitamin A they contain about 18% of the daily  reccommended  intake for vitamin C. Did I forget to mention the sterols? Plant sterols are used to lower LDL cholesterol and cherries have plenty.

Okay, by now you’re saying  “I get it! Cherries have many benefits, but how can they improve my condition?”. Well many people may not know this fact, but cherries are actually considered one of the super foods when it comes to flavonoids and antioxidants. Antioxidants reduce free radical which is important in fighting cancer. Flavonoids, also important to battling cancer, can help eliminate inflamation in the joints and tissue which is primary pain causing element of gout.

Cherries get their bright red color from one of the flavonoids called anthocyanin.  Anthocyanin inibits the uric acid crystals that attack the joints and high levels of uric is what causes gout. Anthocyanin is a powerful anti-inflammatory and unlike NSAIDs (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) they will not hurt your stomach.  They will fight harmful enzymes that increase your uric acid level.

Consuming a cup (about 15 to 20 cherries) a day will help give you relief for gout. You can choose to eat them fresh or dried and it doesn’t matter if you prefer the sweet or sour type. Many gout paients will drink cherry juice which provides close to the same results. Whether you choose to drink a glass of cherry juice for gout or throw some dried cherries on a salad, just remember to consume cherries in moderation. Not only do they contain many helpful properties, they also contain a lot of sugar. :)
